2018 UTEP Football
2018 UTEP Football schedule poster and digital media. First poster done off the #EPMAD campaign, the design had to be bright and engaging to match the new energy.
The challenge was with a new Athletics Director for UTEP Athletics came along a new coaching change and staff for UTEP Football. This beginning year for them has brought a new energy to the University as well as the city. The concept was to bring a colorful and bright detail to a new dawn in UTEP Football. The new coaching staff lead by new Head Coach, Dana Dimel, is vibrant and energized to bring a high-velocity brand of football to the city of El Paso. El Paso is known for its sunshine & sunsets so I designed with that in mind which fit perfectly with UTEP colors as well. The idea was to execute a gradient background from the top sun bowl image to blue towards the bottom.
First solution was working with University Communications to set the proper lighting and poses for each student-athlete & Head Coach. Focused on each student-athlete’s strengths and personalities. Also, made sure the Head Coach had a strong and stoic pose to be the focal point of the poster. Photos are color-corrected and then clipped for multiple use.
Next step after touching up & clipping the Head Coach & student-athlete photos was laying out all on one composition. The challenge was making the new Head Coach focal point without creating an imbalance next to the rest f the roster.
Next solution after laying out Head Coach & student-athletes was schedule. I wanted to execute a balance of flat design along with layers of depth from the players and coach imagery. The focal point being the team with typography weaving in and out adding another layer of depth. Then the schedule is flat and legible but still colorful to stand out. Kept each logo within the color palette of the poster to give consistency overall.
Design for billboard simplified to showcase branding and information for upcoming football season. Solution for keeping all design branding consistent.
Graphic updated each week for home games in the video boards of the stadium. For marketing purposes keeping the fans up to date of what game is coming up next.
After poster is finalized, next solution was translating the design concept on to all other digital media content. Responsive designs to adapt to various social media platforms from Twitter feed to an Instagram Story. Best example of how the impact of consistent branding design can keep all cohesive.
Graphics done for Instagram story-telling the concept of poster while creating responsive design for IG feed & stories.
Design for UTEP home tickets utilizing various football player stances focusing on the UTEP Pick Axe on the helmet. Also keeping the color labels matching away teams & logos.
Covers for ads & sports information on game days. Each home game had a different cover image depending traction of season.
